So I have been hanging out with Karl for years now and just found out last month that he was going to be turning 20! I don’t know why but for some reason I thought he was only 15 and going to be turning 16. Anyway, because of it being his 20th birthday and having never done something special for his birthday, I decided to throw him a surprise birthday party! He loved it. He cried. I walked with him into my parents house where everyone was at with the lights out. When we first went in he was scared all he heard was voices. He stuck his hand out and me and started saying “Baby A” (that’s what he calls me). haha Then the lights switched on and everyone started singing “Happy Birthday” to him. I got chocked up when I saw him crying.
Karl is the coolest friend I’ve ever had. He’s been in our church for more than 10 years now. I’ve tried to explain Salvation to him several times but at the time I just didn’t feel like he was ready or he was getting it. This past Sunday Ryan took him aside and went through it with him. He got it. Karl can’t talk normal like most kids BUT he is super smart and understands pretty much like any other kid. Ryan was able to lead him to Christ. Watching him bow his head and pray was so beautiful. The innocence and the sincerity in his voice was something I’ll never forget. After praying with Ryan he looked up and took a deep breath as if he was sighing of relief. When Ryan was explaining the Gospel to him he drew two hearts. One heart had a cross representing Jesus, the other heart was dirty representing our hearts full of sin. After accepting Jesus he drew a picture of himself…he drew a small heart on his drawings chest with the cross inside of the heart. I’m so glad Karl got saved! I can’t put into words how much this kid has changed my life. He’s taught me to look at life and people different, and for that I am forever grateful. I’m also very thankful that Karls parents have kept him in church this whole time. They inspire me!
